Surviving 30

I turned 30 last week. As soon as I did, my (immune) system went downhill.

I had high-grade fever, 39 to 40 degrees burning. At first I could not take antibiotics, as I was very careful about getting antibiotics to my breast milk (as I am still breastfeeding). I was in heat (literally) for three straight days before I pleaded Neil to take me to the hospital.

I was confined then. As soon as they put the IV on my hand, I started crying. I thought about Kaitlin and how she can handle not being by my side especially overnight, when she's still breastfeeding. As the resident doctors in the emergency room could not comfort me and tell me if the antibiotics they were giving me were safe for breastfeeding, I texted Kaitlin's pediatrician. As soon as she said the antibiotics were safe, I was overwhelmed with relief and felt better.

I survived three days in the hospital. On my third day, I was actually pleading the nurses and doctor to please let me go. They did, at 7PM. I rushed home to my kids, not bothering to eat the dinner served by the hospital.

I still can't get over my 30th birthday. I had imagined it was going to be a blast. I had imagined a night of partying and celebrating my 20s (my great 20s; oh how I lived my 20s). :( I wish I can still get to celebrate it, when I'm more able.

So friends, don't say no when I call! ;p
